Stone opened in San Marcos, California in 1996 and built its name on big, bitter West Coast IPAs like Stone IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale. Sapporo bought it in 2022, then sold the brand in 2026 to Firestone Walker and Duvel Moortgat USA, with Duvel handling it east of the Rockies. Brewing is moving from Escondido and Richmond to Firestone Walker in Paso Robles and Boulevard in Kansas City.
