Homebrewing friends Paul Tinney and Matt Thrasher opened Rockwell in March 2017 in a former car dealership on North East Street. The name comes from Tinney's side work building acoustic guitars. In May 2023 the brewery opened a much larger Riverside taproom on Broadband Drive with 20 taps, a kitchen, cocktails and a private event room, and that is now its home. Live bands play most weekends and Wednesday is trivia. B.I.G. Juicy, the hazy IPA, was voted best beer in Frederick in 2021.
