Magic Hat began in Burlington, Vermont in 1994 and became known for its odd labels and for #9, a not quite pale ale. Brewing moved in 2020 to the Genesee Brewery in Rochester, New York, run by FIFCO USA, which owns the brand. The brand's own site now lists only #9.
