Jeff and Sarah Edwards got started homebrewing in their Morgantown backyard in 2014, then moved to the New River Gorge and opened The Freefolk Brewery in Fayetteville in 2019, with steel and mural work by co-founder Jamie Lester, a West Virginia artist. In fall 2022 they moved up to a 20 barrel brewhouse in a former Harley-Davidson building in Hico, about nine miles north, and opened a taproom there in 2023. The Hico taproom serves wood-fired pizza and hosts events, and the website now lists it as the only location. Early beers like Moondog's Blonde, Trucker Speed and Orange Oswald are still the core of the lineup.
