Flying Dog Brewery

Utica, NY · since 1990

Flying Dog started in 1990 as a brewpub in Woody Creek, Colorado, opened by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre, and its labels have carried Ralph Steadman art ever since. The brewery moved east to Frederick in 2006 and its Wedgewood Boulevard plant grew into Maryland's largest craft brewery. FX Matt Brewing of Utica, New York, which had brewed Flying Dog beer under contract for years, bought the brand in 2023 and moved all brewing to Utica. The Frederick plant has been sold, there is no taproom or tour, and the labels now say brewed in Utica, NY. The beer is still sold widely in Maryland bars and liquor stores.
