Black Locust Hops and Farm Brewery

Freeland, MD

Black Locust Hops started in spring 2006, when the owners, longtime homebrewers, planted 40 hop rhizomes on black locust poles at their Freeland farm. In 2007 their hand-picked hops went into DuClaw's Black Locust Venom Ale, and the farm grew to about 24 acres of hops sold to Maryland breweries, with a harvest setup they built themselves. The farm brewery and taproom pours house beers made with hops grown and processed on site, plus a weekly small batch tap called the Biodegradable Whunk. There are hiking trails, picnic areas, farm tours, food trucks and live music. The farm is all ages on Saturday from 12 to 5 and all day Sunday, 15 and up the rest of the time, and pets are not allowed.
